Kokuszgolyo – Hungarian coconut balls

This Hungarian dessert, kokuszgolyo, is  super simple and fast. And the result is surprisingly delicious. And the best part – it requires no cooking. An easy recipe for a lazy New Year’s.

Kokuszgolyo
Servings: ~20 balls, depending on the size
Preparation time: 15 min
Difficulty: easy

Ingredients

  • 400 g of biscuits
  • 130 g of powder sugar
  • 8-10 g of cocoa powder
  • 8-10 g of rum essence
  • 210 g of milk (traditionally this is replaced by sour cherry juice)
  • 25 g of coconut flakes for rolling

Directions

  1. Grate the biscuits finely.
  2. Prepare the liquid mixture: first make 20 g of milk lukewarm and mix it with the cocoa until well combined. Then add the rest of 190 g of milk and the rum essence.
  3. Add the powder sugar in the grated biscuits and mix well.
  4. Add the liquid in the biscuits mixture and kneed until it clumps very well.
  5. Form round balls and roll them in the coconut. Water your hands if it gets sticky or if you need the coconut flakes to stick better.
  6. And ready!
