5 healthy snacks that you should try this winter

I noticed in the last couple of years how drastically my eating habits can change in the winter. I think it is definitely connected with the fact that we get a lot less light, which definitely makes me feel the evening is a lot longer and therefore feel the necessity of snacking all the time.

In order to reduce the amount of calories during the winter, I propose you to try the following healthy snacks. They are filling but also very delicious.

  1. Roasted spicy carrots with thyme

All you need to do is to cut the carrots in whatever shape is the easiest for you, add some salt and pepper to taste, thyme and spicy paprika and sprinkle a bit of olive oil. Bake them at 185 ºC for 15 min and they are ready to be devoured warm and even cold.

  2. Cauliflower flat “breads” with garlic

This recipe takes a little longer, but you can use the cauliflower base for multiple types of snacks.

I usually quickly blend the cauliflower flowers as small as possible, but you can also grate it. Let it rest with salt for 20 min. Then squeeze the excess water from it using a clean towel. Now you can add the seasoning: salt and pepper to taste, dried garlic, grated Parmesan and one egg. Mix them well and take one full spoon and shape it in a rectangle on a baking sheet. Bake them at 185 ºC for 15-20 min and you can serve them with any sauce of your preference.

  3. Cauliflower pizza

Using the same base as above, from only half of a big cauliflower you can create your own pizza “dough”. Preferably bake it separately for 15 min. Afterwards add tomato sauce with oregano and your favorite toppings covered by mozzarella. Bake for another 10 min and enjoy it!

  4. Zucchini snacks with egg and Parmesan

Cut one zucchini as in the picture. Mix 3 tbsp of bread crumbs with grated Parmesan, salt and pepper. Roll the zucchini in a beaten egg and afterwards cover it in the bread crumbs mix. Bake them at 185 ºC for 15-20 min.

  5. Roasted mushrooms with cheese

Cover the mushrooms with a beaten egg (with salt, pepper and powder garlic). Cover them with grated cheddar and bake them at 175 ºCfor 15 min.
